Apologies if this is not the correct category.
There was a paid VPN service named Cryptohippie that just went out of business. It offered 1 GB of ownCloud storage included with the VPN’s annual fee. One could only access the ownCloud storage once one was logged into the VPN. Now that they are offline, I cannot retrieve my ownCloud storage documents. I contacted ownCloud.com support and was referred here. Anyone have any advice?
If it was a paid service, I would contact the support team offering it, so Cryptohippie. There is no way you can get access to these files any other way. A system administrator of their ownCloud server will have to provide them to you, one way or another.
Thank you for reply
Perhaps I forgot to mention it - they announced on their website that they would be closing up shop on Jan 31st but they stopped providing support several weeks before that. I wrote them several emails leading up to that date but never received a reply. I have no way of contacting them as far as I am aware. My question is whether files on ownCloud were just erased or if I can still access them…
If they have shut down then your files will be on a shut down or scrapped machine. To be honest, they’ve probably been wiped. Remember that OwnCloud is the software used, the machines are owned by the cloud provider, in this case Cryptohippie.
OK that makes sense
Thank you!
