Run client without login

Hello

I’d like to have the client run without the need of a logged in user. A customer uses owncloud to sync files from a fileserver to his owncloud server so they are available form the internet.

Actual behaviour

Currently the owncloud client is installed on the Windows Server 2008. That’s obviously not a good solution because the administrator needs to be logged in for the client to run.

Client configuration

Client version: 2.4.1
Operating system: Windows Server 2008 R2
OS language: German
Installation path of client: “C:\Program Files (x86)\ownCloud\owncloud.exe”

(workaround) solutions from the forums seem to be:
-have the client run as a service (https://forum.owncloud.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2675 it’s from 2012!)
-use the cmd line client and windows task scheduler

What’s the best solution to solve this in 2018?

Thanks for your help.

As far as I know, currently it is not possible. Maybe Guests app can help for your purpose: https://marketplace.owncloud.com/apps/guests

Hi Karakayasemi
Thanks for answering. With “not possible” you’re saying that the two solutions I mentioned above won’t work?

Hmm, I have no idea about your hacks, just saw them. But, as far as I know, currently Guests app is recommended solution for your problem.

Thanks for the hint, however I don’t think that Guests Apps can solve my problem. It’s not about external users not having access. The problem basically is:

How to sync files from a Windows file server to an owncloud server.
