I just want to know if it’s possible to use HBase or any database which uses Hadoop at the backend for owncloud for storing data. If it’s possible where can I start?
No, that is not possible. Supported are MariaDB/MyDQL, PostgreSQL and for Enterprise Edition: Oracle
