Best way to Move Owncloud Data Folder?

Server configuration

Operating system: Ubuntu 16.04

Web server: Apache

Database: Mysql

PHP version: 7

ownCloud version: (see ownCloud admin page) 10.3.2 (latest)

Updated from an older ownCloud or fresh install: Continually Updated

Where did you install ownCloud from: Packages

Are you using external storage, if yes which one: Yes, local

Are you using encryption: no

I am trying to determine the best way to move the Owncloud Data Folder. I use some local external storage as indicated above but would like to leave that where it is and just move the main owncloud data directory to a new mounted drive.

I’ve read conflicting info on the best way to do this. My question is pretty simple.

Which Option is best? 1 or 2 below:

Option 1:
Option 1 - Using a symbolic link

Or Option 2:
Option 2 - moving then editing data path in config.php

Or do both options work and it’s users preference?

Thanks for your help!

Hello,
Copy the folder to the new location.
Then edit your config file
Then you have to search/replace the OLD path with the new patch in your database.
There is not really easy.

There is not really easy.

Which is why I think the symlink option is the best. I’m just trying to determine what negative implications there might be down the road. so far I haven’t been able to think of any.

Yes a sym link is an option if you are moving to the same file system.
