Download link only works internally within the server, dosen't work externally

Hi Guys,

For some reason when I upload a file and send a download link, only those within our company can open the link, doesn't work externally.

Can someone help me resolve this please?

To access your link outside your LAN you need to have a domain name or an external IP.

I suppose you would have to ask your admins or support team. This is not really an ownCloud issue but an routing / network issue.

Would I need to set something up on OwnCloud? I feel like I'm missing something.

Could you tell me what your goal is?

As far as I understood your situation:

You create a share.

You want to send a link to this share to someone outside of your company network. ( LAN )

It is not working.

Correct?

If your setup is as I imagine it to be, your owncloud like your computer has an private IP, like 192.168.x.x or 172.16.x.x or 10.x.x.x.

If you create a public link, you are telling the reciever - Hey, my ownCloud is on 192.168.3.1/owncloud. Please go there and find your file.

But since it's a private IP -> not routable - > the connection failes.

What you need to do, is tell your router, to forward all request to http or https to your owncloud.

Yes thats correct. Ok, I will check with admins of our router. IP Starts with 192.168...thats right.
