I’m curious how practical ownCloud is for managing the files behind a YouTube channel rather than just using it for normal document storage.
For example, if you’re working with several hundred GB of raw 4K footage, edited exports, thumbnails, project files, and older videos, would you actually keep that workflow inside ownCloud?
The part I’m unsure about is the desktop sync. I’d like to keep the large video archive on the server without having everything downloaded to my editing PC, while still being able to access individual project folders when needed.
Has anyone here used ownCloud this way? I’d especially like to hear how you handled large video files, selective syncing, and keeping the editing workflow from constantly re-uploading or duplicating files.
yeah for big video the desktop client is fine if you treat it like partial sync not a full mirror.
keep the archive on the server, only sync the project folders you are editing. in the desktop client right click the folder → choose what to sync (or use virtual files / placeholder mode if your client build has it). dont put the whole 4k dump as a always-synced folder or it will fight you on every export.
also watch the trash + versions on those big files, they eat space fast. for editing i usually keep the active project local and only push finals / selects up, otherwise the client reuploads a lot when the nle rewrites project files.
if you are on classic ownCloud server not ocis, selective sync in the desktop client is the main knob. works, just dont expect it to feel like a local disk for hundreds of gb.
