IOS can't open files (but showing up on the left side)

EDIT: I found out the problem was not putting https:// in front of the domain. I was able to connect with www.xxxxx.com/owncloud and could see the files in the list, but wasn't able to open them. Deleting my account and reconnecting to https://www.xxxxx.com/owncloud solved the issue.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Log into Owncloud from an Ipad mini (iOS 9.3.5)
  2. Click on a file in the list on the left side

Expected behaviour

I should be able to open the files (obviously).

Actual behaviour

Instead when I select a file, it says something like "Can't open the file. Make sure, that the file exists" (on my device in German: Datei kann nicht geöffnet werden. Stelle Sie sicher, dass die Datei existiert)

Edit: The exact error is "Unable to open this file. Please make sure it exists"

When I try to open a folder, a yellow message pops up on the top left with a message like "Not found. Make sure that it exists" (or in German: Nicht gefunden. Stellen Sie sicher, dass es existiert)

Edit: the exact error is "Not found. Please make sure it exists"

Server configuration

*Apache/2.4.10 (Debian)

*Database:MySQL*

*PHP version:5.6.33-0+deb8u1*

*ownCloud version:10.0.4.4*

Client

*iOS version:9.3.5*

*ownCloud app version:3.7.3*

*Device model:iPad mini*

I think nevertheless of the solution posted above it could make sense to update this outdated version to the recent 10.0.8.

True that. Thanks for the note.

Ah, and thanks for posting the solution / workaround which was working for you. From my experience that isn't always the case and often threads stay without a solution even if the thread creator found one.
