Local server discovery for direct sync over LAN

Hello everyone,

I’ve set up my very first ownCloud server at home for me and my family. We are in a remote location and on a mobile Internet connection with limited monthly transfer.

Is there a way to configure ownCloud clients to connect directly to the server via LAN when at home? The ownCloud server is exposed via a Cloudflared tunnel so all the sync traffic goes out to cloudflare and then back eating up the monthly transfer at a terrifying rate…

Please tell me I just need to expose some ports on the server and all of the the-cat-done-something-funny-4k-video traffic will be kept local…

Welcome to the ownCloud Community.

You are going to need to read up on split-horizon DNS and ensure that the resolvers on your LAN return the LAN IP for your ownCloud server hostname.
