Looking to setup an inhouse secure transfer server

Hello

I'm looking to build an on premise dropbox like server and was wondering if owncloud has the feature I need.
The server won't be in the cloud and will be located on premise and the data will be stored on the server itself.

The feature required - I need it to be able to let the external users download/upload from the server using the https protocol and using username/password.
Is this possible using the free version of owncloud?

You can run owncloud on any webserver, a dedicated Linux server in a data-center or a server directly at your location. To make access available from outside your local network, you need to enable port-forwarding.
