Loss of GUI Log In Page after Upgrades & Reboot

Steps to reproduce
1. Upgrade to latest maintenance release to 9.1.4.2
2. All appeared normal after Upgrade
3. Failure occurred after oC & OS updates
4. Appears to be a PHP error but am unsure how to repair the problem.
(This could have been caused by a power interruption when the UPS battery
was depleted. Although the system seemed to run fine on restart for several days before reboot.)

Expected behaviour
After oC update using ./occ update then followed by a server reboot for kernel updates.
Accessing the server http://FQDN/owncloud the GUI log on page should be present.

Actual behaviour
When accessing http://FQDN/owncloud the page that loads is completely blank

Server configuration
Operating system: CentOS Linux release 7.3.1611 (Core) (64Bit)
Web server: Apache/2.4.6 (CentOS) OpenSSL/1.0.1e-fips PHP/7.0.15
Database: mysql
PHP version: 7.0.12 upgraded to 7.0.15
ownCloud version (see ownCloud admin page): 9.1.4 (unable to access GUI)
Updated from an older version 9.1.4 to version 9.1.4.2 ownCloud or fresh install: Updated via terminal ./occ upgrade
Special configuration (external storage, external authentication, reverse proxy, server-side-encryption):

such environmental issues can be easily solved by putting the following message into your favorite search engine:

to find threads like [1]. Your PHP environment is currently configured to give ownCloud a memory limit of 2MB where ownCloud needs at least 128MB like stated in [2].

I did do a Google search on the error message but perhaps I was looking for too much which limited my search too much.

In any event, I investigated as you suggested.

  • The /etc/php.ini file did not have a memory limit set so I uncommented out the line that set the limit to 128MB - memory_limit = 128M
    No Joy :frowning:

  • Next I checked the /var/www/html/owncloud/.htaccess to confirm that the memory limit was set to the default of 512MB which it was for both lines and which are set to: php_value memory_limit 512MB
    No Joy :frowning:

  • Next I added ini_set('memory_limit', '-1'); to /var/www/html/owncloud/index.php as suggested in one of the searches

    I removed the above as that was a long shot...

I am running out of ideas... any other places to investigate would be appreciated.

Hummm I think I resolved issue.... I copied a working /var/www/html/owncloud/.htaccess file from a working oC... although it is running CentOS 6.5 verses CentOS 7.3...

I did compare the files yesterday line by line... and they were the same. Somehow thei must have been self inflicted when I was changing the upload limit from 513MB to 2GB... for some reason every time there is an upgrade it defaults to 513MB. Changing it in the Admin control panel used to work several generations ago but no longer. I must manually change in in the /var/www/html/owncloud/.htaccess file.
