method to prevent users creating files and folders in places which they don't have write permission

Hi,

Sorry to bother you with such a simple topic, but we couldn’t find an answer yet.

We have OwnCloud installed on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Server, with different clients including Ubuntu Desktop, Windows 10 and 11.

We need to prevent users from being able to create file or folders in places which they don’t have write permission (eg. folders shared by others, etc.). Currently they can do so, and the new files and folders are kept in their local devices and the newly created ones have red cross icons. The users also receive the standard “Not allowed because you don’t have permission to add files in that folder” warning.

The issue is, we have doubt that most of our users will just ignore both the warnings and the red icons, and keep on creating content in those folders. The end result will eventually be catastrophic, regardless of who is responsible of.

Is there a method to prevent users creating files and folders in places which they don’t have write permission ?

regards.

Hi mscag,

Short answer: no. I guess the users have to learn the hard way.

In your sharing process you might improve communication with your share recipients. You could adjust the email template or use an app like announcementcenter to guide your users.
