ownCloud 2.10 for Android released

Hello everybody,
here we go with a new version of the ownCloud Android app bringing a bunch of community contributions while the rest of the ownCloud Android team keeps working on a new architecture for the app.

Before going deeper into the new features, we would like to congrat two contributors for making possible this version, Shashvat Kedia and Hannes Achleitner.

Support new Android version

One of the main changes in this version was developed by Hannes to support Android 9, also known as Android P or Pie, the latest version of Google’s operating system.

If you own a smartphone with Android 9, give it a try and send us your feedback.

Usability improvements

Shashvat contributed with many usability improvements to this version, including both select all and select inverse options in uploads view.

Shashvat also included sorting options when sharing files from other apps with the ownCloud Android app.

Another contribution by Shashvat is an interesting improvement regarding notifications and file deletions. When we deleted multiple files in previous versions, multiple notifications appeared but now, we are showing just one.

More changes

Sharing with other users containing the same display name was a difficult task since are not distinguishable.

That’s why we have improved the behaviour in the private sharing view and now you can enable an option in your server to see the user id or e-mail address and properly distinguish the users you are sharing your files/folders to.

Another very requested feature is the support for light filtering apps like Twilight. In previous versions was not possible to use the ownCloud app for Android when any of those apps were enabled but you are now allow to do it at your own risk since is not that secure.

How can I download the new ownCloud Android app?

2.10.0 is already available on Google Play Store, so download and enjoy it!

Warning

The ownCloud app for Android will be only available from Android 4.4 upwards from now on, so we have also unpublished the workaround app for Jelly Bean.
