Hello everybody,
yesterday we released a new beta version of the ownCloud app for Android, which includes login rearchitecture, first step of app redesign and support for OpenId Connect.
Update: Today we released a new beta version: β2.15 beta 2β which includes some fixes and improvements thanks to feedback received. More info here.
Which features of 2.15 beta can I test?
End of support for Android KitKat OS
As it was announced in release 2.14, Android KitKat will not be supported anymore in ownCloud App. The new minimum version supported will be Android 5.0 Lollipop.
End of support for older than oc10 servers
Same for ownCloud servers, older than 10 servers will be no longer supported. The new minimum version supported will be ownCloud 10.
Login Rearquitecture
One of the most important changes we introduced in 2.15 is login rearquitecture. We have applied several changes in Basic and OAuth authentication methods. During this process we have fixed some issues regarding OAuth token renewal. It would be great if you can test the new login implementation, checking that you can log in to your account as expected, OAuth tokens are properly renewed etc
OpenId Connect Implementation
Related with previous one, ownCloud App will support OpenId Connect (OIDC) from now on. You can check its official documentation if you want to learn more about OIDC.
To test this, you can log in to this demo server:
by using any of next credentials:
einstein:relativity
marie:radioactivity
feynman:superfluidity
Biometrical lock
From now on, thanks to a Batlin (https://github.com/Batlin) contribution, oC app will use the native biometrical lock. To tests this, you can simply enable the biometrical lock in settings, and reopen the app. You will be asked for your biometrical lock.
Usernames with β+β are now supported
Usernames with β+β were included in oC server 10.4 and werenβt supported in android App. They will be supported from now on.
New bottom navigation bar
And last but no least, we have the most visual change in 2.15, which is the new bottom navigation bar. We have moved the main menu from drawer to a bottom navigation bar. So it will be easier for you to access your available offline and shared by link files. To test this, you can simply navigate between options and check how it works.
Anything else to test?
Yes, aditionally we have included some crash fixes related with move and copy operations and an ANR related with documents provider. If you have detected any of these problems, please try them out and send us your feedback.
Read the whole Changelog in here.
How can I join the beta program?
If you want to join the beta program in PlayStore, you will need to have the last app version installed. If you already have the last version installed, go to ownCloud app in PlayStore and scroll down to the end of the view; there you will see a new tab like the one below, just press the IβM IN button to join and your final app will be replaced with the beta one.
2.15.0 beta will be also available in F-Droid soon.
