today we are very proud to announce a new version of the ownCloud Android app.
The 2.6.0 Android app is going to include an important improvement for one of our most used features, Instant uploads, which will be replaced with the new Camera uploads feature, available on all devices running Android 5 or higher. To use this feature, as you can see in the screenshot below, just have to select a camera folder and the pictures and videos will be automatically uploaded in a period of 15 minutes at most, focusing on reliability instead of immediacy and avoiding battery draining caused by excessive checking of the folder.
Note: Please be aware that if you used the earlier Instant Uploads feature, you will lose the configuration and have to enable the "Camera uploads" feature if you want to use it, since it needs to be initialized and configured properly.
We have also included support for Android 8 or Oreo, the last version of Android operating system, enabling you to use some of its features, like the notification categories to configure separately the notifications for ownCloud uploads and downloads among others.
Another interesting and new feature is the Private link to easily share links to any shared file/folder between users in the same ownCloud server (ownCloud X required)
And last but not the least, we have fixed also typos in some translations.
This version is already available on Google Play Store, so enjoy it!
The workaround app for Jelly Bean has been also updated in Google Play Store, for those that still need it:
