ownCloud Android app 2.7.0 released

Hello everybody,

today we are very proud to announce a new version of the ownCloud Android app.

Which features is 2.7.0 going to include?

We know the importance of security in mobile apps, specially in apps which take care of our files, that’s why we have included support for two new lock methods:

  • Pattern lock (contribution by @sd1998)

  • Fingerprint lock

Note: passcode or pattern lock are needed to enable fingerprint lock.

Apart from this security improvements, we have put the focus on our users and include a new feature that will make the uploads more flexible, enabling to upload pictures directly from the camera (contribution by @sd1998). To include this new option along with others that will be added in the future, we have created a new bottom menu.

Nowadays, internet is full of GIF images so we have decided to include GIF support. With this new feature, we can reproduce our animated GIF images.

The next thing is the new Welcome wizard. When new users install the ownCloud Android app for the first time, it will be possible to know at a glance the potential of the app. For example, this is the wizard we will see after installing 2.7.0 ownCloud Android app for the first time:

Besides, it’s important that our users have an overview of the new features included in a new version after upgrading. That’s why we have included a What’s new wizard. For example, this is the wizard we will see after upgrading from 2.6.0 to 2.7.0:

And last but no the least, some improvements and bug fixing:

  • Display file size during upload (contribution)
  • Hide always visible notification in Android 8
  • Animations when switching folders
