ownCloud, Inc v.s. ownCloud GmbH app

I was looking at the IOS app for ownCloud and there seems to be two.

One from ownCloud, Inc. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/owncloud/id543672169?ls=1&mt=8

and One from ownCloud GmbH https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/owncloud-online/id1436996124?mt=8

Are these both Official IOS apps from ownCloud?

I also see that ownCloud GmbH is the same company offering both on the android side too.

Is the Free one the same as the one that cost $0.99. I don’t mind supporting the cause.

I only ask because I did not want to have users in stall an app that was not the officially support app.

Hi Mike,

thank you for your question. Both apps are officially support by us.
The ownCloud Online app is free because it is included in a subscription for our SaaS cloud solution ownCloud Online (https://owncloud.online). It also works only with ownCloud Online servers.
The “normal” app can be used for any ownCloud server, hosted, managed, on-premises or whatever else.

I hope I could clarify things. If you have additional questions feel free to contact me any time.
Best regards

Hello,

Oh okay. I’ll make sure we use the one for $0.99 cent then.

Just an FYI, the ownCloud Online android and IOS apps work with my server setup so far.

I did not get an error that said it could not connect or prevented me from entering my ownCloud URL.

There seems to not be a restriction as you may have expected.

The basic features work with it too, yes. Some features are restricted and only available in the paid app.
But good catch

Hello,

Okay, I have not come across a feature that does not work. Someone should talk to the developer to tighten up the restrictions. Just saying.

I’ll try the other one and see how that compares.

Thanks,
Mike
