Spam attacks for days

On the case now, thanks for your patience! Disabled new user creation without approval, they keep coming with some old users as Jesus used another mechanism to delete I think … if you find deleted threads by accident please let me know. Thanks for pointing that out @anon21401411

Hi everyone.

I just signed up and did not get approved. Got this mail from a no reply address:

A staff member rejected your account on ownCloud Central.

Looks like spam, please use real name

Since the name was shown as optional, I did not fill it in.
My IP was blocked, so I was unable to create another account.

The nice folks at talk.owncloud.com were able to approve my account :grinning:

I know that discourse currently has a lot of spam. Instead of blocking new users, maybe you could put the first post under review and or set a minimum age before creating a post. Other discourse forums use that tactic to combat spam

Edit: Since this (my first post) also needed to be approved first, I see even less reason on why we should block new user accounts

Actually we do both currently to avoid issues were people do a first friendly post and then start the spam … at least you got your account now, Welcome!

Hey,

i think this user is also a spam bot and i have also flagged all posting:

While the responses seems to be somehow valid this posting which is already hidden contained a spam link:

https://central.owncloud.org/t/linux-client-does-not-save-password-always-authorizes-through-the-browser/13215/20

There is another user where i’m not sure if this is a spam bot because it is the first posting but really generic:

Thank you for flagging your concern. I got why my post might’ve raised a red flag! Spam bots are everywhere, and it’s great to see people like you keeping the community safe.

Just to clarify, I’m definitely not a bot. I joined recently because I’ve been troubleshooting OwnCloud sync issues for a project and stumbled on this thread. My comment was meant to share what worked for me, but I realize it might’ve come off as generic since I’m still learning the ropes here.
Appreciate your vigilance, and I will double check my approach to avoid any future confusion.
