I was wondering if there is a way to stop saving files to my web server but rather reference them. I only say this because I now obviously have two copies of each file and this uses up vital space on my web server.
Is there any way to do this?

I have to admit I have no idea what you are trying to achieve, can you ellaborate more what you are trying to do and what the challenge is you are facing?
My apologies for the vague question - done on a rush out of the office.
I would like to have the files saved locally on the local server but still be able to access them via the website. Instead of having all files saved in two places. Being able to download the files from the server, direct to the desktop client to be able to open them and then save any changes. All without having a copy saved on the website server.
If any of that makes even the slightest bit of sense - I'd appreciate any help you can provide.
