Synchronisation issues

Expected behaviour

Normal synchronisation of files stored in ownCloud

Actual behaviour

Files are continuously being uploaded and removed, without user input

I'm not the ownCloud administrator for our organisation/project. Our administrator is unavailable to assist. I cannot answer any of the following questions.

Template for output < 10 lines

    (On Windows using cmd.exe, you might need to first cd into the ownCloud directory)

I think you should wait until your administrator is available again.

Hello, I'm the administrator. Not an expert in owncloud.

My understanding is that files were reorganised including large folders. We don't want to reproduce the problem but as it led to a lot of repeated creation and deletion of files which continued until @cholland was able to stabilise the system by (I think) creating a new folder and copying stuff out of owncloud and back into the new folder. There are many users accessing the server. It is possible someone else did something at the same time.

I noticed that files were being deleted and recreated by different people in the activity page.

Server is digital ocean, Ubuntu 14.04
I installed ownCloud 8.2.1 via digital ocean so it should be the standard install.
I upgraded to 9.0.2 a while back, it had been working fine for a long while.

extract from log file which looks like it was the beginning of the problem:

I suggest to use a newer server version.

I think there is a new one coming soon that had some fixes with regards to moved files.
