Ubuntu 16.04 Upgrade Removed MySQL and PHP

I upgraded my server from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS. The update process removed MySQL (and PHP) without re-installing.

Can I re-install MySQL and PHP and preserve my owncloud database?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The normal uninstall process normally only deletes programs but no user data. So you still should have your database. In the past, I have very different experience with Ubuntu upgrades, some work quite good others required a complete reinstall.
I would try to install mysql and php again. I hope you did a full backup of all data and database before you run your system upgrade.
