Unexpcted Folder Deletion

Windows 11 - ownCloud ver. 3.0.0.9215 - 457b08

I have been using the same folder for 3 months. Today I clicked to a shortcut and my OS said its not there. I looked further into this, and the entire folder was missing. I did not delete it, nor did any of my co-workers (only 1 of which can see the folder anyway).

Looking at the logs, this is what I see. Why were these removed? Where did they go?

Anything in the activity app on the server?

No, nothing on the app on the server. What it looks like is that the local agent wasn’t syncing properly…for months. Then it did, and decided to wipe out all these local files mentioned in the screenshot above.

i think some mandatory info is missing in the initial posting. For example the version of the ownCloud server is missing, maybe an outdated version with known bugs is in use?

The version of the desktop client looks to my also outdated:

according to Desktop App Changelog - ownCloud this has been released on:

ownCloud Desktop Client 3.0.0 (2022-11-30)

and version 3.2.1 is the most recent one. Maybe either an outdated version of the server, an outdated version of the client or a mixture of both is playing a role?

It’s possible to get that information, but it doesn’t explain why files that were in use, available on my own machine for 3 months, regardless of if they were syncing or not, just got removed one day. Wiped, without a trace.

At this point, I’ve already rebuilt many of these files and reports, as I couldn’t just sit around and hope. I’ve altered my sync and backup strategy in response to these events, and I’m not going to pursue further troubleshooting.

i’m not sure why a bug in outdated version(s) shouldn’t be an explanation for the unexpected deletion? :slightly_frowning_face:
