Can owncloudcmd be run without installing the client?

I would like to use owncloudcmd on a linux machine without installing the whole desktop client. The command would be executed from a shell script, to push data to the server, then clear it from the local machine once sync has completed.

Will this shell program work stand-alone, even if the client installation program has not been run?

If not, is there way to manually configure the environment so that owncloudcmd can be installed and run headless?

You might need to compile the whole client (including X11 packages etc), but then for the actual running you should not need a graphical UI
