Upgrades are lot easier when done more frequently. While there can still be challenges, the lesser amount of changes reduces the difficulty of isolating what needs to be fixed.
It is hard to remember that long ago, but I seem to recall some changes to those apps somewhere in those versions.
You seem to have skipped too many versions at once in step 2 based on this older topic.
I don’t know if you can restore a backup and repeat your upgrade with all of the relevant versions, but it may have a better chance for success.
Updated since the following reply suggests that 8.2.11 → 10.x is a valid upgrade path.
