OwnCloud versioning brings up older versions and gives clients an error message

Steps to reproduce
1. Running server version 8.2.7
2. Running client version 2.2.3

Actual behaviour
From time to time clients get a notification of a back-up detection. This gives the user the option 'Keep Local Files as Conflict' or 'Normal Synchronization'.

However nobody restored a backup recently.

Server configuration

Operating system: Ubuntu 14 LTS (not updated -> system updates etc.)

Backup Detected message(2.2.3)

Hello! Have this problem on windows 8 x64. client version 2.2.3(build 6307). On the server log-file has no errors! p.s. please forgive me if this question has already been discussed, I couldn't find him! thank you!

Annoying Backup Detected message

I occasionally receive a pop-up box titled "Backup Detected" followed by "This sync would reset the files to an earlier time..." and I have a choice of keeping the local file or accepting the sync. Trouble is the file in question is not named so I cannot make an informed decision as how to act. More info would be greatly appreciated.
