Too many files on /data compared to local drive

On my own shared server webspace the /data-directory is alway bigger than the synced “equivalent” on my local drive: 170 to 120 GB. When I browse the /data-directory with my providers statistic tool I can see a plenty of directories that probably have existed somewhen, but then have gotten deleted or at least moved.
So: I am not talking of the GB the trash bin or the versions-folder ist taking!

Does anyone know how to solve that problem?

Hi,

a very good starting point would be if you evaluate on your own which files takes the additional space. This is something only you as the owner of this server can do, it can’t be guessed by anyone in here.

Hey! Thanks for your reply!
The point is: As these files do not anymore exist on my local folder they’re supposed to be old and should be deleted. Possibly they couldn’t because of any lock-problems?! Deleting folders via online-ftp is difficult because the seem to remain in the original order whereas I have reorganiced and renamed them locally.
And to get this locked files problem solved my php skills are not enough or I need more time than I have at the moment )-;
