Great feature! Way more intuitive than the current way of syncing.

Interesting idea, but make sure to make this a configurable option that can be toggled on/off during setup. Some users need the original sync method, e.g. syncing locally with a laptop before they travel to a remote location with low bandwidth.

Yes. We are also thinking about different options like sync only in one direction, etc. Question is how to make it easy for the average user.

The option to Downloading all files within a folder with a right click is a very important one for us. We have users who go offline regularly for international or remote (outback) travel. Until this option is implemented, it will not be possible for us to start using this new feature.

The concept of the VFS though is a very useful and powerful one, we are paying Dell quite a bit extra for laptops with 1TB space for some users whom need access to a 600+GB ownCloud share that is mostly just archive data (as in, they don’t need all that locally synced).

Does this require ownCloud 10 at the server end?

hodyroff, I currently sync a few folders in one direction by providing all users with read-only access. This works for me simply because our server is the master copy of these folders and the ‘Admin’ account does the syncing.

Hi,

This is looks great.
I think it still has a couple of missing features as below, that I think will make it more functional.
Microsoft Office Add-in show owncloud as a save location in Microsoft Office products. This missing feature/function at the moment I find is a major issues, you always need to go up to the user level via c:\users…\owncloud to find it…

For Bandwith have an option ti “Enable Lan Sync” this is a great time saver when your at that same location and on the same network as the owncloud servers, will allow it to sync faster and bypass the bandwidth limitation rights.

Also do something with conflicting files, give the user an option if they want to upload them or not.
Thanks

Isn’t that also done in 2.5.0 alpha1? https://github.com/owncloud/client/issues/5295 (I’m not a Windows guy)

No

Hi,

I have not noticed it with the latest version 2.5 Alpha, which i am running.
But since then I had to rebuild my test laptop so I will test it again, I have installed the 2.5 in test mode to further test the virtual directories on a clean machine. I will reinstall office 2013 and test it again.

Were I originally test I had manual create quick links “Quick Access” as they call it so it might have skewed the results.

I will let you know what I find on the clean machine.

My OC server is 10.07.

Thanks.

Hi, just to add to this.
I have been doing some more testing and have found a couple of issues.
Test 1 with a new user that has only about 5 gb of data on OC and that has synced and created the virtual files with out any issues.
The other is my account which has about 450GB of data, and has now been “syncing” for about 3 days, and no virtual files or folders had been created… I stopped the sync and selected normal syncing and and several hours later still nothing.

On the same PC have install 2.4 and it started sync with in an hour - this is my account with about 450 Gb of data with no issues.

Volume of data to sysnce seems to be causing an issue…

Thanks
George

Hey @gpapaiko, thanks for reporting! About…

We found out a potential bug in 2.5alpha1 that might be causing this scheduling behavior you’re seeing:

Stay tuned for the next 2.5 beta or try out one of our latest daily builds from https://download.owncloud.com/desktop/daily/

Hope this helps! Best!

@gpapaiko quick correction; the issue I referenced was introduced later than alpha1; so it should not be present with the client you used to report this.

Can you capture some logs (https://doc.owncloud.org/desktop/latest/troubleshooting.html#log-files) and send them on our way for further troubleshooting?

Thanks again!

@alfageme, will do I’ll reset my VM and test it again and send you the client log files.
Thanks.

Any news from this side? Is the issue tracked down?

Hi Sorry forgot all about it.
Had been busy with meetings and all.
Just check the VM and owncloud still had not created any virtual folders.
It has now been running for over a week,
The client log file is only 16Kb.

Client has Still cycling through “Checking for changes in remote…”
The progress bar has not move at all.just keeps cycling through the folders.

Extract, of log file.
It just keep repeating the “(last step: xxxxx…”, not sure if this is of any help…

If you have anything you want me to try let me know.

But what I have notices, that on existing pc that are using client 2.4.1, it is now also taking longer to sync the files. Also just noticed that my main PC had automatically upgraded to 2.4.1, and has not synced for a day or so, hence not sure if this related.

One PC I actually had to remove the client, and install 2.3.4 for it to work, and stop it from upgrading.
This seems to be a side-effect, so not sure if this has done anything to the owncloud server.

Sorry forgot to add the log files:
